Neil Patrick Harris is the new William Shatner...

  1. Disagree. NPH does comedy intentionally. Shatner did it accidentally throughout much of his career. But he elevated strange cadence and random word emphasis to an art form. I'll give him that.

  2. Dougey is not man enough to fill Shatners shoes

  3. I agree a little bit with Jodi. But I think both Harris and Shatner were doomed with typecast. Harris will always be Doogie Howser, Shatner will always be Captain Kirk. I also think they're similar because despite this typecasting, and probably because of it they are both very good at self-deprecation. They are willing to make fun of themselves and that makes them endearing to many people, including of course me.

  4. I don't see the comparison.

NPH is actually an amazing performer who unfortunately only gets remembered for childhood stuff. How I Met Your Mother is as funny as anything I've ever seen and has a Wonder Years thing going on with the narration. Even since Starship Troopers, where I first saw him after Doogie, he was funny - and of course the web-based Dr. Horrible.

And I can only pray that NPH could be as good at Denny Crane when he gets into his 70s!

  5. I dunno, I find that they both have such a joy in their work. I am not sure if it is fair to compare talent. Talent is unmeasurable. I simply believe NPH and Shatner seem to be able to succeed despite the shackles of typecast. NPH is new millennium cool, while Shatner is old millennium cool.
